Stanley Goudey left Nova Scotia an went to the the United States in 1900.
His mother apparently sent him to business college before he moved to Los
Angeles. He bought property on Ventura Blvd. in Los Angeles and was on his
way to a good life when the crash of 1929 hit. He had mortgaged much of his
property to put his son Donald Stanley Goudey through dental school, and then
was foreclosed on. After that he moved to Camarillo, Ca. and bought two acres
of land and began to plant avocados, cheramoyas, both of which he grew
organically and sold to the health food stores in Los Angeles. He had some
incredible trees. He got very sick at one point and became a vegetarian, to
which he attributed his long and robust life to 101. (He did lose sight and
hearing the last 8 or so years.)
