Amos Goudey, supposed to have been the son of George Goudey of Marblehead, and born as early as 1705. His service in the French and Indian Wars is possibly what brought him to York originally.
Amos Goudy was a resident of york as early as the year 1722, and his name appears on the muster roll at that date as a sentinel in His Majesty's service during a term of thirty six weeks. The name of Amos Goudy appears again on the Muster Roll of Capt. Jeremiah Moulton of York from January 28, 1725 to Nov 21, 1725, he being a member of the Train Band. The military records confirm that Amos Goudey was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars.
From the court records of York Main we find that Amos Goudey sued for debt at least 7 times and for Trespass and damages once. These records also show that he was considered a "Fisherman". We also find three spellings used for his name (Gowdy, Goudy, and Goudey). Amos Goudey was also apparently at least somewhat literate as he signed his own name on court papers.
