Not much is known about this George Goudey and I have put his family together based primarily upon circumstantial evidence and a careful examination of the records of the Church of Gosport (NEHGR Vol., 66 Pages 141-155, 209-225, 294-306). Additional information was taken from Mahlon M. Gowdy's book published in 1919. Mahlon M. Gowdy had a hard time sorting out his information and 80 plus years later I'm having another go at it. George Goudey was considered a "Fisherman" of Gosport at some time because the record of the birth of his daughter Katherine was copied into the Church of Gosport records from records of baptism at Newcastle. The Church of Gosport was not established until 1729, and in July of 1732 the Rev. John Tucke became pastor of the Church and began keeping records. He also copied some of the records from other churches where "shoalers" had been baptized or married etc. The original records for these churches in or near Portsmouth and Newcastle New Hampshire have been lost or destroyed. Among these records was the baptism of Katherine Goudey daughter of George Goudey. Thomas Goudey was also a shoaler and had children by his first wife Sarah baptized by the Church of Gosport, and both of his wives were listed as members of the Church of Gosport. From this evidence I have assumed that Thomas was also a son of George Goudey. The George Goudey who married Elizabeth Martin was also a fisherman and was probably born before this George Goudey went to the Isles of Shoals. The similarity of name and occupation was used to attribute George to be George's parent. All of these children seem to have branched out from the Isles of Shoals to various points along the Maine through Massachusetts coast line and all were roving fishermen until some of them settled with wives in one of the coastal towns.
April 24, 1725 a warrent was issued to appraise the estate of George Goudey of Newcastle, N.H. The Estate consisted of 7 acres of rockey Pastureland valued at 17 pounds 10 shillings.
