1709 July, 3. Katherine D. of Geo Goudey p Mr Wells.
The records of York Co. Maine show that on December 26, 1729:

Katherine Gowdy (of Newcastle) being bound over to this court by Joseph Hammond Esq., one of His Majestie's Justices of the peace for said County to answer for having a bastard child. She appearing and owned to the fact and declared that one John Evans was the father of said child, but she knows not from whence he came nor where he has gone; it is therefore considered by ye Court that Said Katherine Gowdy receive fifteen stripes on her naked back at ye post and pay cost one pound six shilling sixpence, or else to pay a fine to ye King of three pounds & fees as aforesaid, and stands committed till Sentence Performed.
